The best supplements and their benefits

I’ll be doing a few blog posts in this series about the benefits of the best supplements and vitamins on the market. Today, I’m covering cod liver oil, coenzyme Q10, garlic oil and Neurozan. All tried and tested by moi.

The Benefits of Cod Liver Oil

“I have noisy joints. Cod liver oil silences them.”

Packed with Omega-3 fatty acids and rich in Vitamin A and D, Cod Liver Oil is beneficial in:

  • Lowering blood pressure and cholesterol
  • Assisting with bone health
  • Easing stiff joints
  • Reducing the risk of osteoporosis
  • Protecting against heart disease
  • It is also important for kidney, eye and heart health.

The Benefits of Garlic Oil

I’ve taken garlic supplements with Coenzyme Q10 to lower my blood pressure and cholesterol.

Garlic contains vitamin B6, vitamin C, manganese and antioxidants (notably allicin). Garlic can help reduce cholesterol and blood pressure (300 mg per day dosage).

It also has anti-bacterial properties and can help ward off colds and some cancers. Buy the coated garlic tablets if you want to avoid garlic breath.

The Benefits of Coenzyme Q10

Another antioxident favourite of mine is Coenzyme Q10. Coenzymes occur naturally in the body. They can help lower your blood pressure, if taken in high strength dosages (200 mg to 300 mg a day). They can also protect against heart and gum disease and are known to help relieve migraines.

You can buy 100 mg in your local supermarket for £5.00 or less. Higher strength capsules retail at around £13.99 for a 30 day supply.

(Don’t ask me about the chart to the left; I didn’t go to med school!)

The brain tablet: Neurozan

Who hasn’t seen this in the shelves and thought, “Wow that’s expensive! Why on earth would you want to buy that?”

One day, in 2004 to be precise, I had a memory blank for two hours straight. I forgot how to do a job I’d been doing for more than ten years. Before this particular episode, I was getting these random memory blanks. Could have been stress. Who knows. I questioned my intelligence at this point, and not my sanity.

This can’t happen, I thought. I should get smarter as I get older, not thicker.

I went with Neurozan. It’s a multi-vitamin created to increase your mental performance. It’s not cheap, but it worked for me. The brain fog lifted. I was more alert and upbeat.

If you’re feeling tired, stressed, having difficultly concentrating or becoming a little forgetful, you should notice a difference after one month of taking them. Don’t get me wrong, they’re not smart pills, so don’t expect your IQ to soar.

Neurozan contains vitamins and  minerals to help with cognitive, nervous system and psychological functions.

It also contains high levels of Vitamin D (for healthy muscle and bones), Coenzyme 10, Gingko Biloba (for energy), L-Arginine (for heart health) and 5-HTP (for anxiety and depression).
